The carriage and sleigh industry thrived in Skaneateles in the 19th century. This carriage was made in the 1860’s by The Packwood Carriage Works, John Packwood, Proprietor. The carriage works were located on the north lake shore, across from the Sherwood Inn which Mr. Packwood once owned, hence the name Packwood House for a time. The carriage features velour upholstery, carpeting and glass windows that raise and lower, plus leather side curtains and leather dashboard. A fine example of Skaneateles craftsmanship.
