Sleigh Display

SHS MuseumThe carriage and sleigh industry thrived in Skaneateles in the 19th century. This sleigh was made in 1892 in Henry Polley’s shop on Fennell St. Polley did the wooden body and Henry Elson did the iron work. All parts of the sleigh were handmade in Skaneateles, including the upholstery and finish painting. The style of the sleigh is an Albany cutter marked by its lack of corner edges that creates a soft, rounded form. This is a classic “One Horse Open Sleigh.”
